Georgian Foreign Minister to visit Finland

Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet the Georgian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, in Helsinki on 13 March. Georgia was granted the status of EU candidate country in December 2023.

The Foreign Ministers will discuss relations between the two countries and Georgia’s path towards EU membership. Support for Ukraine and regional issues in the South Caucasus will also be on the agenda.

“The people of Georgia strongly support their country’s aspirations for EU membership. Georgia needs reforms to meet the membership criteria, and Finland is ready to give Georgia its support. Finland and Georgia enjoy good relations,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.

During his visit to Finland, Minister Darchiashvili will also meet President of the Republic Alexander Stubb, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz and representatives of the Grand Committee of Parliament.
